Layla Flaherty had the perfect life, or close to it. Until a stranger gunned her parents down right in front of her, leaving her with seizure inducing PTSD. After years of trying to pass as normal and failing miserably, she resigns herself to being invisible. But new to town Landen O’Brien sees her, and he likes what he sees. Much to Layla’s surprise, he doesn’t freak out when she has a seizure in front of him. He does the exact opposite, calming her until the tremors subside. But Landen has secrets of his own. Secrets that both bind them together and tear them apart.
Scarred by loss, Layla leaves her hometown of Hope Springs, Georgia, hoping to put her painful past behind her and start over in college in California. When she runs into Landen at freshmen orientation, she has a choice to make. Reinforce those steel walls she’s built up around herself or give the only boy who can keep her still a second chance.
Landen’s more than ready to tear down those walls but this time when they come crashing down, they might bury her.
Keep Me Still is one of those books that will have you laughing, crying, and grinning ear to ear like a giddy school girl. There were a few times I found myself yelling ‘NO! NO! NO!’, at my Kindle. This book seriously had me on the edge of my seat on an emotional roller coaster. I loved every minute of it!
I really liked Layla. I felt so sorry for her with everything she has to deal with, at such a young age. She is one strong chick in my opinion. Landon was beautifully damaged – just like we like our book boyfriends. Along with Layla, he was facing his own demons. They both tried so hard to hide their secrets from everyone. If only they knew their secrets were safe with each other, my heart wouldn’t have threatened to break so many times. The angst between these two was epic. You think everything is going to fall into place and then BOOM! You are right back on the roller coaster and plummeting downwards.
I really liked the interactions between these two characters. So stinkin’ sweet! Especially in the beginning. The cute things Landon does and says are definitely swoon worthy. He had me giggling so much, I felt right back in high school, feeling all of those emotions from my ‘first love’. Yeah, this book makes you feel a wide range of emotions.
After all of the drama, I loved how the book ended. I have to admit, I was really worried about how it was going to end with everything that had gone on throughout the story. I was pleasantly pleased with how the story wrapped up with a nice little bow. I’m not sure if I could have handled a nasty cliffhanger after everything. Lol! I can’t wait to read another story by Caisey Quinn. I’m in love with her writing talent.
